About This Presentation: Flexography is not a plug-and-play process! Without careful calibration and optimization, the process can quickly become out of control. Join Steve as he outlines the starting points for successful process color output.

About Steve: Steve Smiley is a 40-year print, premedia and branding solutions veteran. He is one of North America’s foremost color experts, with knowledge of how to apply color management tools and techniques for color accuracy and consistency. ISO standards combined with better communication between brands and suppliers helped to reduce waste and downtime by 35%.

Steve is the co-chair of CGATS, convener of TC/ISO/WG2, and expert in WG3, WG4, WG11, and WG13. He is an ICC member, FQC Executive Committee member for FTA, and an Advisory Board member for Clemson University. In 2017, Steve was inducted into the FTA Hall of Fame; he is also a recipient of the Holzinger Award, FTA President’s Award, and Clemson Top Cat Award.

About This Presentation: What do we do with all this data? Now that we have defined our starting points we have generated a ton of data. Join Kim as she demonstrates how to create curves from the optimization and the fingerprint data.

About Kim: Kim has over 30 years of print experience. Her experience and knowledge have come from working for printers. Her duties have included management of the graphics and plate departments, job planning, calibration, optimization, and implementation of the color control processes, standard work development, and employee training. She has led teams in systems development and implementations to reduce touchpoints and errors. She was an early adopter of FIRST and FIRST certifications and has led certification of multiple plants.

She has served on the FTA Board, is a member of the Membership Committee, is the chair of the FIRST Committee, has served as a judge for the Excellence in Flexography Awards Judging Competition for many years, and now serves on the Judging Competition Committee for Narrow Web.

About Jinkai: Jinkai Qian joined Techkon USA in 2015 as an application engineer providing consultation, training, and technical support to clients globally. His goal is to bridge the gap between brand and print supplies for efficient communication and color fidelity. He is actively involved in the company’s research and development projects. He is the author of several TAGA papers and member of FTA’s FQC Committee. Jinkai holds a master’s degree in print media from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
